Should Gabriola agree to an adjudication process for minor bylaw infractions, and what’s up with bylaw enforcement anyway?
Local trustees have asked staff to arrange a public meeting to discuss both these issues and gauge the community’s support for a proposed bylaw adjudication process.
Trustees made the decision in response to a recommendation from the Advisory Planning Commission (APC) that was presented during the Feb. 25 Local Trust Committee (LTC) meeting. The commission had been asked to give feedback on the new programme which, according to a report by Islands Trust Chief Administrative Officer Linda Adams, “provides a more cost effective and timely way of dealing with minor, straight-forward bylaw violations”.
Trustee Sheila Malcolmson noted that the APC had a number of questions about the adjudication programme which bylaw enforcement staff had not been available to answer at the Feb. 11 APC meeting.
Commissioners thought it would also be helpful for the community to receive information about how the bylaw enforcement process presently works.
