A fire in a rental home on Brown’s Way owned by Gabriolan Dick Smith was put out with dispatch, when the Gabriola Volunteer Fire Department was called out at 6:48 am Thursday.
The building was unoccupied when the fire crew arrived Fire Chief Rick Jackson said later that morning.
Jackson said he was on scene at 6:56 to find “flame coming out of the back corner of the building, and the pumper was on scene maybe two minutes after that”.
The crews “broke the front door in, did a quick search, ventilated, and sprayed a little water and put it out,” Jackson said.
Jackson said they haven’t determined the cause of the fire, but there was no sign of the building being broken into.
“The crew responded quickly,” Jackson said. “Everything went pretty much like clockwork, and I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out.”
